Woodworking and Photography

About

Clay Ransom

My early memories with my grandpa (Mel Ransom) were in his basement shop where we built small garages for matchbox cars, bird houses and various other thing. He was a amazing wood worker, making furniture, replica cars and a San Francisco Cable Car. My dad was a creative as well, receiving a Art scholarship to KU and also working in his shop. He taught me the ins and out of tools and we did many projects around our house.

In high school and college I discovered a passion for photography. I have worked as a photographer part time for over 20 years. People and food have been the two areas that I have worked in the most.

I inherited the tools that I had grown up using a few years ago but there was one that was newer that had not been used much.  It was a wood lathe. I did some spindle turning but really liked the idea of bowls and art pieces. I put money into a few parts to get going. After that I was hooked.

Melvin is my middle name and it was after my grandfather. I thought is was an appropriate name for my work working.
